Did you know that Nashville has a comedy festival? Well we do. This year it runs from April 15 - 23. If you want to attend, you can see big-name comedy stars like local boy (and personal fave) Nate Bargatze, David Spade or Fortune Femster. Check out the Nashville Comedy Festival for all the details. In the meantime, I offer you two of my other faves to keep you entertained.
A Tale of Two Comics
I love Iliza. I found her million Netflix specials during COVID and was captivated. She’s funny but she’s also smart. This book is no exception. Iliza has this style of delivery where she’s telling a story and then she stops and inserts another opinion or joke as an aside. I got the print version of the book, so I didn’t get to experience her reading this in her trademark voice, but I’ve listened to her so much that I could hear her in my head. (That’s not creepy, I swear. Party goblins for life!) If you don’t know Iliza, check this one out and jump in. You can also read her previous book, Girl Logic. Love her. More please.
I first came across Hannah when she released her second Netflix special, Douglas (named after her dog). I thought she was quirky and hilarious. She kept mentioning a previous special called Nanette, that apparently some people didn’t think was comedy and some loved. I was nervous about watching it because I don’t like really intense, heavy things. Spoiler alert: Nanette goes pretty dark, but it was captivating. This book is the story of Hannah’s life and how that first special came about. Like Nanette, parts are funny and parts are not, but I’m here for all of it. Since she’s Australian, I don’t know if Hannah will ever come here so we can see her perform live. Good thing we have this book to enjoy.
Happy comedy-izing…
