Andre Previn 1929 - 2019

March 5, 2019

A great musician who spent his life making all kinds of great music.

If you are any kind of musician, Andre Previn is just one of those names you know. Like Leonard Bernstein or Vladimir Horowitz. He did a little bit of everything - he wrote and conducted for movies, he played jazz, he was a classical pianist. Here are some 5 fun facts about a great musician:

1. Previn was born in Germany as the youngest of three children.
2. Previn worked on over 50 films in his career and he won 4 Academy Awards.
3. He was involved in various leadership positions with six major orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
4. He was married five times - his most famous wives were Mia Farrow and violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter.
5. In addition to the Academy Awards, Previn won a Lifetime Grammy, the Glenn Gould Prize, Kennedy Center Honors, and he was appointed an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

The library has lots of his music, so if you haven't ever heard him, today's your day.
