Llama Fun!

February 15, 2019

I admit it, I have a problem; I love llamas too much!

I suppose my love started with the llama farm near where I grew up as a kid. We drove past them on the way to my aunt's house sometimes, and I always thought they looked so adorable. I love llamas so much that there is a work of art in my living room of a llama with glasses. The love was reintroduced when my coworker found A Couch for Llama by Leah Gilbert in our collection. This picture book is about a family that loses their new couch while hauling it home from the store. A lovely llama finds the couch and isn't quite sure what she should do with it. She tries all kinds of hilarious things like eating it, but she just can't figure out what it's for! Finally, she figures it out, just as the family comes back for their couch. This is a funny, adorable read that is perfect for families.

Anna Dewdney is popular for bringing Llama Llama into the world. My personal favorite is Llama Llama Red Pajama. Llama learns all kinds of things in these books, like how to share, how to spend time away from home at Gram and Grandpa's house, and how to be calm when you're feeling mad. [[nid:4818]]

Crafty Llama by Mike Kerr is a story all about a llama who loves crafting with her friends and giving perfect gifts. Llama loves making crafts that are beautiful, but Beaver cannot decide what he can bring to the table. Check out Crafty Llama to be inspired to make your own craft! [[nid:4821]]

There have also been a few board books about llamas released that I love! Llamaphones is a book full of homophones about llamas, and it is absolutely adorable. I also highly recommend When Your Llama Needs a Haircut for a funny story about different types of haircuts that people get. [[nid:4820]][[nid:4819]]

Another great read, especially if you're looking for something that is offered in both English and Spanish, is Is Your Mama a Llama? by Guarino. This book gives the words in both languages, as a small portion of our collection does, and it is fun to read it in both languages from our World Language Collection.[[nid:4822]]

Llamas are a wonderful animal to read about. Maybe pick up one of these or a book about your child's favorite animal, to inspire them to continue their love of reading.
