Designated Survivor (Season One)

August 23, 2018

He's trying to save the world again. This time from the Oval Office.

August is my least favorite month. It’s just too hot to do anything except hide inside. Which makes it perfect for binge watching.
Sometimes, I start a series that my friends talk me into, but get bogged down in the middle. Blah. This one is not like that. It grabbed me from the beginning. Although, I should confess that two of my all-time favorite shows are The West Wing and 24. Designated Survivor is their love child.
So what’s a Designated Survivor, you ask? During the State of the Union address, one member of the cabinet is left in an undisclosed location, just in case something happens. Like, say, the whole Capitol building gets blown up, killing the entire US government, except for Tom Kirkman (aka Jack Bauer aka Kiefer Sutherland) and one Republican Senator (Virginia Madsen).
Intrigued yet?
I remember seeing the commercials for this in 2016 when it first came on, but I don’t really watch a lot of live TV. (I don’t want to fall in love with a new show, only to have the network cancel it – Fox, ahem). Once I got started on this, I didn’t want to stop. I’m not going to give you any more details because there were a lot of big spoilery moments that I don’t want to ruin for you.
I really enjoyed this show and I need to get the second season and watch it. Maybe I can  jump in on the third season and watch with everybody else. The only thing I missed was Kiefer turning to Mary Lynn Rajskub and yelling “Dammit, Chloe!”
Maybe next season.
Happy surviving…
