What a Wonderful World

November 3, 2017

Just when you're sitting around wondering if you have an impact on children's literacy and educational development, this kind of wonderful thing happens.

Last week after finishing Story Time I was approached by a sweet boy. With his mother's help he asked, quite shyly, if I knew J.J. Lamb's address. J.J. is the puppet that I animate and voice at Story Time. I told him he had two choices: he could place a letter in the mail slot at the librarian's desk, or I could give him her address so he could send a letter through the mail. He chose the latter. I wrote down the address in nice big letters and off he went, address in his tiny hand.

Two days later Kristen delivers to my desk (J.J.'s residence) the following correspondence and beautiful handmade book.

Just when you're sitting around wondering if you have an impact on children's literacy and educational development, this kind of wonderful thing happens. I love my job. It's a nice reminder that all the little things we bring to our programming and interaction with patrons matters.
